The blurb doesn’t do it justice. The writing is flawless. The characters strong, nuanced, gorgeous and meaningful. I am head-over-heels in love with brilliant, layered, witty and vulnerable Evangeline. Bennett is her perfect foil – reflecting Evie’s struggles and triumphs to show her best light.
This is the front-runner for my 2017 Book of the Year. I was in love with the writing by page 5, and in love with the store by page 20. Ms Thomas hasn’t written contemporaries before so I’m off to check out her historicals. I cannot recommend this book enough.The
