Melody Bittersweet and the Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency by Kitty French

This fell somewhere btw 3 and 4 stars. I’m feeling generous tonight – so 4 stars it is.

Not really a romance. Definitely not relationship-focused. This was mostly a story about Melody coming into her own. She’s a psychic in a family of psychics, and she wants to stand out. To do that Melody starts her own business, and it’s moderately adorable.

There’s a good cast. A murder mystery. Decent writing (sometimes there was too much description and not enough action – but the pace sped up in the second half of the book). Overall the book was spunky. I only laughed out loud once, but that one time it was really funny.

Overall it was a nice break from my more intense reads. I would have enjoyed more romance, but I can appreciate a book about a woman finding her own two feet (especially as they’re shod in Converse). Melody loves superheroes, dogs and junk food. She’s incredibly likable – totally the book’s strong point.

I almost gave up on this early on, and I’m glad I didn’t. It turned out to be relaxing fun.
