Courtney Summers is brilliant. Truly in a league of her own. From her characters to her stories to her writing style – she has created something wonderful.
The story – super-popular cheerleader Parker did something bad. And now she’s punishing herself. That’s it. But Parker does it with style. And Summers gives it heart.
But Summers gives you so much by giving you so little. Her writing style is sparse. You have to extrapolate. It’s all about what’s unsaid – read between those tense edgy lines.
And her characters are huge. Real and flawed and awful and funny and smart and mean. I adored Parker. One of the most relatable characters I’ve read. Add the stellar supporting cast – and this became a tiny book I cared about deeply.
I can’t stress enough that you should read a Courtney Summers book. Some Girls Are is one of my favorite books ever. But this one was amazing too. A smart book for the discerning reader.
