More Than A Mistress by Mary Balogh

DNF at p 122. TBH i likely could have slogged through this one. It wasn’t bad, but at some point, it wasn’t compelling enough for me to continue. The story-line was really similar to The Secret Pearl – and each time i came across a similarity it bugged me – dragged me from the story and sort of wrecked the mood.

Jane interrupts a duel and gets a dude shot. Said dude wants her to be his nurse while he recovers. Feelings develop. They’re both prickly characters. And it’s funny – i would tell you that i prefer low-drama characters but in this case it was hard to get attached to them. And with a story line that felt familiar and characters that felt shallow i couldn’t find a reason to keep reading. The book never upset me or pissed me off. It wasn’t even boring – i just felt like it wasn’t the best use of my reading time. I think i’m going to step away from the MB books. Absence makes the heart grow fonder – and all that.
