A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) by VE Schwab

This may have been a 5 star book. For certain the last 30% was 5 stars all the way. But parts of it were boring. And the characters struggled here – reminiscent of the struggle of the second book in a lot of trilogies.
It was really long. We learned a ton. But we had less adventure. More moping. And everyone was aggravating.
Rhy is a just a diva. Head all the way up his ass. Selfish.
I don’t like Emery much. I don’t trust him. He seems like a lot of flash and no substance.
Kell spent this entire book miserable and that killed me. His few happy moments didn’t linger. He was treated like crap. If Kell suffers I suffer as a reader.
Lila seemed less like a spitfire and more like a moron. How many dumb choices can one human make? Aggravating.
Holland was awesome though. Taking bad guy to a whole new level. The games were fun. The ball was awesome. The world building is top-shelf. The writing brilliantly compliments the story and characters.
The ending nearly killed me. I flipped shit and cried twice in a short time span. Waiting on the next book in the series is going to be agony.
